Parents and their kids braved wind and rain to journey on safari with author, Loretta Neff, for an interactive story time of the award winning children’s book – Tame Your Manners.
Palm Beach, FL – The kiddos were ready for an exciting safari adventure as they gathered “campfire style” on blankets and pillows around a kids teepee with safari guide, author Loretta Neff, at a holiday story time event held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Roberta Roller Rabbit boutique in Palm Beach.
Wearing safari hats and binoculars, local children listened intently as their guide took them on a fun and adventurous journey through the jungle to meet animal characters and learn interesting facts and basic social skills.
Hosted by Roberta Roller Rabbit, Ashley Bell and India Paul Hancock, the holiday inspired story time helped raise funds for the EW Foundation, a provider of award winning character and etiquette education for children and youth, with emphasis on those in low-income communities. As a sponsor of the EW Foundation’s upcoming musical brunch, Books, Bellinis, and Bel Canto, to be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Café Boulud in Palm Beach, Roberta Roller Rabbit generously donated 20% of all sales from the event to EW Foundation.
“The event was nothing but spirited! Story time with the little ones and some holiday shopping for a cause were a perfect way to start a Saturday! Robert Roller Rabbit’s classic prints of elephants and monkeys were a fun fit for the safari-themed event. We couldn’t be more pleased.” stated India Paul Hancock, director of development for the EW Foundation.
Tame Your Manners is an award-winning book offered by the EW Foundation and the first in a series of character education picture books for children ages 5-12. The second book, Sip Tea with Mad Hatter, will release in early 2016, and like the first, is based on EWF’s award winning KAMP curriculum and designed as teaching tools for parents and teachers.
“I wrote the book as a fun, meaningful and most important, memorable way for a child to learn manners, noted Author Loretta Neff. The illustrations and correlations of animal characteristics to the manners advice really connect with children (and adults), and phrases like Lions Don’t Need to Roar, Don’t Be a Whino Rhino, and Stand Tall like a Giraffe are easy-to-grasp concepts for children.”
Following story time, Ms. Neff held a Q&A session revealing the level of engagement as children remembered facts from the book. In addition, the kids joined in a sing-along of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” with the beautiful vocals of the Safari Queen, followed by a basic box-step lesson, paired to the “Happy” song by Pharrell Williams, showing kids how to put their best foot forward with the agility and grace of a gazelle.
“We want to thank the community for their support, Marcella Moeller and Roberta Roller Rabbit for being such gracious hosts, and Capehart Photography for capturing every precious moment! I hope everyone had as much fun as we did,” stated Ashley Bell.
